Cartridges can be difficult to install if you are completely new to them. It may seem like you need some extra help setting up the cartridge, but it’s not rocket science and can be done very easily. There are two cartridges available, one black and the other tricolor. In addition to the colors, cartridges are available in two sizes, namely the standard yield or XL size. The Canon PG-260 and CL-261 use different types of inks to create different types of images. Canon PG-260 uses a high pigment ink resulting in high-quality smudge-resistant images.

These also have a fast drying time. On the other hand, the Canon CL-261 has a tricolor ink cartridge with colors (magenta, cyan, and yellow). It uses dye-based inks that take longer to dry but print beautiful images quickly.

To install Canon PG-260 and CL-261 ink cartridges, the process is straightforward and can be completed in minimal time. Both the standard size and high yield size of the cartridge fit exactly the same, so there are no installation issues either. The only difference between the two cartridges is the ink inside.

Steps to Install Canon PG-260 and CL-261 ink Cartridges.

Step 1: Open the Cartridge and Remove the Orange Tape from the Side. This will expose the vent hole from where it can work with the printer.

Step 2: When handling cartridges, avoid touching the gold dots. These gold contact points are sensitive and can damage the cartridge if not handled properly. Fingerprinting on these golden dots may give an error message when using the printer to take fingerprints.

Step 3: Open the Printer Cover and Wait for the Cartridge to Come to the Center. Then lift the gray latch and pull it out to remove the cartridge. Note that the latch with the letter B is for the black cartridge and the one with the C is where the tricolor or colored cartridge should be placed. Any swap will ruin both cartridges, so you better be careful.

Step 4: Install the cartridge and press down on the latch to secure it.

Step 5: The printer will take a few minutes to initialize, then you can start printing. This is a simple and efficient way to install Canon PG-260 and CL-261 ink cartridges.

Conclusion

Both cartridges hold the same amount of ink and even are installed exactly the same way. This is just the amount that varies between normal-size cartridges and XL sizes. If you print regularly, you’re better off choosing high-yield cartridges because they can be used for a long time.

On top of that, if you print only occasionally, you can go with standard cartridges, but be sure to print at least once a week to stay on top of the ink.
